We cover floors with plastic sheets. We add enough moisture to the ceiling to scrape off the texture since moisture breaks down the adhesive bond. We make sure moisture doesn’t damage the drywall. If there are hidden imperfections like screws or visible joints, we cover them with joint compound and sand them. After we sand the ceiling where there were rough spots, we prime it to help cover up small imperfections and paint it and once the paint is dried, we remove any tape or plastic. Acoustic or popcorn ceiling as it is called, is a bumpy surface created with little styro-foam pellets mixed in with mud. This type of ceiling was very popular in the 60’s and 70’ because the texture promotes sound absorption and covers imperfections in the ceiling.
